The overall aim of this initiative is to develop the capacity for specialist palliative medicine training in India. The courses will be directed to two specific groups: MBBS & Non Palliative care specialists
Vision
The Academy of Palliative Medicine represents a system and structure that aims to develop, execute, and sustain competence-based specialist palliative medicine education in India.
Mission
Our mission is to establish a pathway for specialized palliative medicine education in India, creating qualifications that build capacity and offer employment opportunities.
Desired Outcome
The Academy of Palliative Medicine aims to create an alternate path to specialist palliative medicine training and accreditation in India. By creating a nationally valid qualification (PGDPM or a fellowship), it will create specialist level employment opportunities for existing and new doctors in palliative medicine. It will also provide opportunities for non-medical college institutions in India to participate in specialist palliative medicine training and create a pathway for MD/MS/DM/MCH doctors in other clinical specialities practicing palliative care to become a palliative medicine specialist. Additionally, it will provide a structured training pathway to MBBS doctors practicing palliative care for many years to become a palliative medicine specialist and create a platform for the integration of all the generalist palliative medicine programs and palliative care sensitization programs under a standard umbrella. The overall impact of the APM is to augment the capacity to provide palliative care through palliative care training at the specialist and generalist level and improve palliative care awareness.
